In a context of accelerated ecological, digital, and socio-economic transformation, the blue economy is emerging as a strategic lever for sustainable and inclusive growth in the Mediterranean region.
For Tunisia, which has over 1,300 km of coastline and over 70% of whose population lives in coastal areas, the responsible development of maritime sectors—fishing, aquaculture, maritime transport, coastal tourism, marine renewable energy, and biotechnology—represents a major opportunity for economic recovery, ecological transition, and reducing youth unemployment.
Given this context, here are the reasons why a national workshop on blue skills development is particularly relevant:
- Addressing the skills gap
- Improving the training-employment match
- Stimulating entrepreneurship and innovation
