Description
The first WestMED national event in Libya is being organised in close coordination with the Italian National Hub on 30 November 2023 in Tripoli, Libya. It is an important step and opportunity to coordinate efforts, with a particular focus on the following:
- Marine resources
- fishery and aquaculture
- Marine environment
- Maritime transportation
- Marine Protected Areas
- Green Marine ports
- Blue skills
Libya is one of the key countries in the Mediterranean, with a coastline of more than 1,900 km, a continental shelf of more than 50,000 square kilometres, more than 70 coastal cities and villages, maritime ports and commercial shipping, fisheries and aquaculture, coastal and maritime tourism, marine protected areas and underwater urban archaeological sites. Hence, there is enormous potential to develop an advanced, sustainable blue economy in Libya.
Italian and Tunisian clusters will share their experiences and lessons learnt. The collaboration will be elaborated via a strategic agreement to boost the creation of a national maritime cluster in Tunisia.
The event will bring together specialists and other blue economy stakeholders from government institutions, academia, research institutions and the private sector to start a discussion on the possibilities, opportunities and challenges facing building and developing a sustainable blue economy in Libya.
