The Digital Ocean Forum 2024, organised by the European Commission, the Flanders Marine Institute and Mercator Ocean International under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the European Council, will take place in Brussels, and online, on Thursday 13 June.
President von der Leyen announced, at the One Ocean Summit in Brest in February 2022, that the European Union would build a Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO) by the end of 2024. Since then, the European Commission has worked relentlessly to transform this vision into reality. Through the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, work has advanced to make ocean knowledge available to citizens, coastal actors, scientists, and policymakers worldwide and to show EU leadership in this important area.
The Digital Ocean Forum 2024 will be the occasion to unveil the prototype of the EU DTO and to showcase what the EU DTO, as a Commission public service, can do for the sustainable development of our blue economies and the management of our ocean resources and how it contributes to the implementation of the UN Decade of Science for Sustainable Development.
