Description
The EMODnet Open Conference is taking place on 25 and 26 November 2025 as part of Marine Knowledge Week. This edition will showcase EMODnet’s central role in the EU Marine Knowledge Landscape, from supporting EU Policy to driving a more competitive, green, and restorative Blue Economy.
In June 2025, the European Commission released the European Ocean Pact, calling for coordinated, evidence-based action at sea. As a core asset of EU Marine Knowledge, EMODnet is poised to serve as the marine data backbone of this collective effort.
The fourth EMODnet Open Conference is timely, with 2025 marking the mid-point of many EU and global policy frameworks, including the EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters; the EU Biodiversity 2030, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, and the UN 2030 Agenda, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Against this backdrop, the EMODnet Open Conference 2035 will reflect on EMODnet's active contributions to policy implementation — particularly within the Integrated Maritime Policy — and explore how EMODnet can support emerging initiatives such as the European Commission's upcoming Observation Initiative, the Nature Restoration Law, and evolving ocean governance efforts, including the conservation of Marine Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ).
