Publication on possibilities for the fishing and aquaculture energy transition

[Publication Energy Transition cover]

As with other economic activities in the EU, fishing and aquaculture need to transition away from fossil fuels as soon as possible. This is not only to help reach the goals of the European Green Deal, such as reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but also to make the sector more profitable, sustainable, and strong. This need is made worse by Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, especially because the resulting rise in diesel fuel prices has hurt the EU's fishing fleet's social and economic performance in a big way. This document gives an overview of what has been done so far to help fishing and aquaculture boats change how they use energy until January 2023.
