In January 2025, the European Algae Biomass Association and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) published the report ‘Bottlenecks limiting the development of the algae sector: a concise description of most pertinent remaining research & innovation topics’.

The report provides an overview of the main bottlenecks in advancing the algae sector through research and innovation across the EU.

Based on the mapping of EU-funded algae projects, the outcome has identified the knowledge gaps and highlighted the sector’s most pressing research needs that will enable technology and innovation transfer to market.
