Baltic Gender: Promoting Gender Equality in Marine Science and Technology

Baltic Gender is an EU-funded project aimed at reducing gender inequalities in Marine Science and Technology around the Baltic Sea region.

Project Overview

  • Duration: 4 years (September 1, 2016 - September 1, 2020)
  • Funding: HORIZON 2020 programme, under the call for promoting "Gender Equality in Research and Innovation" and the topic "Support to research organisations to implement gender equality plans" (GERI-4-2015)
  • Participants: Eight scientific institutions across five countries around the Baltic Sea

Key Objectives

The primary goal of Baltic Gender is to work on reducing gender inequalities in Marine Science and Technology fields.

Baltic Gender addresses several aspects of gender equality in science:

  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Networking
  • Work-life balance
  • Awareness raising

The project is primarily concerned with the natural sciences, particularly Marine Science and Technology. Baltic Gender’s approach includes addressing:

  1. Facts & concepts on gender inequality
  2. Institutional practices and processes
  3. Academic & science careers

Key Output

One of the main productions of the Baltic Gender project is the development of "Gender Equality Plans in (Marine) Research Projects."
