Despite recent progress toward gender equality, women remain underrepresented across the blue economy sector, hence the World Maritime University (WMU) will address this issue at an international conference from 19-21 May 2025 on "Advancing the Blue Economy through Gender Equality." The Conference aims to highlight the importance of gender equality as a driver of sustainable growth across maritime, ocean science, fisheries, and other blue economy sectors.
The conference will feature experts from around the world and will include:
- Dynamic Panels - Thought leaders and experts will share their visions and insights on the importance of gender equality in achieving sustainable development.
- Interactive Workshops - Following each session, workshops will encourage teamwork and innovation, exploring the future of the blue economy through tackling pressing challenges.
- Deep Dive Project Session - Learn how maritime education and training in Africa can play a crucial role in shaping the blue economy and promoting gender equality.
