Factsheet - 10 years of EU funding for the algae sector (2014-2023)

Description

Algae are emerging as a valuable resource for Europe’s green transition. From sustainable food and renewable energy to marine restoration and bioplastics, algae offer innovative solutions that benefit both people and planet.

The European Union has invested over €559 million in algae-related projects between 2014 and 2023. Through programmes such as EMFF, EMFAF, LIFE, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, 219 projects involving 1,470 organisations have received support to scale up algae innovation across the continent.

This factsheet highlights the key results of a portfolio analysis of EU funded projects in the algae sector which we released in April 2025.
