Description

Naked men floating on dry logs collected from the forest and tramping water drove a whale herd towards the beach if anyone got stuck on the beach sand. If one was caught, the whole community ate as much as one can. If that had been shipbuilding, it met nearly all principles of the blue economy. No hazards to the sea nor to the environment, no strain on ocean resources and integrated community feeding. To reach the main blue economy zone, the ocean, a ship or a float is required. Without shipbuilding the blue economy bears little meaning. Communication, commerce and lively hood when refer to blue economy activities, they call for ships which are product of shipbuilding industry. The question is how better ships could be built to explore and utilize sea and ocean resources without harming these common possession, the ocean as well as its counterpart bio-sphere. They are partners because the balance that they maintain is essential for human survival. In this presentation, features of better shipbuilding are presented, where possible relating to blue economy principles. Importance of shipbuilding and blue economy are drawn to demonstrate the weightage, thereby to conclude how crucial it is to accommodate activities including shipbuilding according to the principles of the blue economy. The most crucial of all issues are the emissions from ships with GHG into the bio-sphere and the intruding the ecology systems of the sea and the ocean by ships. It is foreseen that burning fossil fuel on board may be avoided thereby emissions and that measures may be undertaken to build more sea friendly ships. It is inferred that the blue economy and shipbuilding are intertwined.
