48th Plan Bleau note: Recommendations to enhance Offshore Wind Energy in the Mediterranean Sea

"Plan Bleu's 48th Note Focuses on Sustainable Marine Wind Energy Development in the Mediterranean" The Plan Bleu, a regional activity center of the United Nations Environment Programme/Mediterranean Action Plan, is continuing its work on the concepts of a sustainable blue economy and growth. This time, the focus is particularly on marine wind energy, with a new note proposing recommendations for sustainably strengthening the wind energy sector in the Mediterranean region. In this 48th Plan Bleu note, 16 key challenges have been identified, encompassing environmental, socio-political, economic and financial, legal and regulatory frameworks, and technological aspects. These challenges are considered priorities for the Mediterranean basin as the region seeks to develop a sustainable and growing wind energy sector. To tackle these challenges, the note proposes a series of actions aimed at promoting the sustainable development of this rapidly growing energy sector. The objective is to ensure that the use of marine wind energy in the Mediterranean region remains environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable.
