The Commission has published a call for evidence on designating renewables acceleration areas under the revised Renewable Energy Directive (EU/2023/2413). Citizens and stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback for four weeks until the call closes on 23 February 2024.
The information gathered from this call will help write a guide for EU countries on setting up "renewable acceleration areas" for solar and wind energy projects to help them meet the renewable energy goals set for 2030. The guidance document is scheduled for publication by the Commission by April 2024 as a deliverable under the European Wind Power Action Plan. EU countries will then have until 21 February 2026 to designate renewable acceleration areas for one or more renewable energy sources to comply with the requirement of the recently revised directive.
