New web page: Possibilities showing the energy transition of fishing and aquaculture sectors

The EU Blue Economy Observatory has launched a new addition to the platform with a page created from an online version of the compendium entitled: Possibilities and examples for energy transition of fishing and aquaculture sectors.

The page provides an overview of initiatives for the energy transition of fishing and aquaculture vessels. It also includes broader developments in the maritime sector to decarbonise through alternative fuels and power sources. It also provides examples specific to fishing and aquaculture, along with other innovations, such as fishing practices and gear, to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

New topic pages include:

  • New Maritime Fuels;
  • EU funded initiatives for energy transition;
  • Fishing and aquaculture vessels with alternative power sources;
  • Adapting fishing practices;
  • Hull modifications;
  • Innovations.

The new page presents an overview of known initiatives for the energy transition of fishing and aquaculture vessels, up to February 2024, and will be regularly updated with the latest developments in the sector.
